Roofing Maintenance Tips
- Examine roof and chimney twice a year.
- For roofs, visually inspect all surfaces from the ground if possible. Look for torn, broken, missing or cracked shingles or tiles.
- Avoid walking on tile roofs - they will crack.
- Check that sealed joints around roof vents are not cracked. Sealants break down with exposure to sunlight and weather.
- Consult with qualified roofing contractor, as necessary, for correction of any roof problems.
- Always call your homeowners insurance company first, for any storm related damage.
- For chimneys, look for open gaps between the house and chimney, cracks in mortar or stucco and minor settlements.
- Seal gaps with an appropriate caulk and repaint.
- Consult with a mason to re-point or repair mortar and stucco.
